Let’s be honest; the lock as a result of the covid-19 pandemic has been very difficult. However, transitioning life back to normal has been equally difficult too. As much as most people dreaded the work from home rule in the beginning, they are facing challenges in coming back to work full-time too.
If you have such employees in your workplace, the following 5 tips might be helpful for them to transition from work from home to the normal routine:
Give Time for Transition
It can be very difficult for employees if you give them one date and ask them to be regular at work from that date. Instead, keep a transition time from three weeks to six weeks for your employees. In this transition week, ask employees to come to the office for at least 40% of the workweek.
Employees can begin coming to the office, at per their ease, for two or three days of the week in this transition period. They can begin bringing back the office supplies that they might have taken home too. It will also give them enough time to make arrangements at home to make their time at the workplace easier. Moreover, it will also allow them to build back their old routine.
Have a ‘Back to Normal’ Event
A ‘welcome back’ or ‘back to normal’ event before the transition can help boost your employees’ morale. It will allow them to catch up with each other and mentally prepare themselves for the transition.
Let Employees be Comfortable
People loved the work from the home rule because it allowed them to be as comfortable as possible. The lockdown from the covid-19 pandemic even changed fashion and people’s preferences in clothing.
You can recreate some of this comfort for your employees by relaxing the formal attire as much as your industry allows. You can also provide couches and replace office chairs with bean bags for employees to be a little more comfortable at work.
Keep Work from Home Option Open
The covid-19 pandemic was difficult in more ways than one. Many people lost their jobs and made many different arrangements for kids and other family members at home. If your employees face difficulty arranging a necessary presence at home, allow them to work from home option until they resolve it. It will gain you their loyalty and make them put more effort into their work.
Encourage Small Breaks
Another benefit the work from home rule brought was getting away from work as per one’s convenience and need. People weren’t stuck to just one lunch break during the day but could take as many small breaks as needed. You can also allow and encourage these breaks for your employees at work as long as they complete their daily tasks on time.
It is no secret that the majority of the employees in almost all industries performed better while working from home. If you want to keep benefitting from your employees’ hard work, you need to make things as comfortable for them as they kept it at their homes. After all, what matters most is that work gets done!
