At one hand, you’re given the impression that they’re there working for the employee’s well-being and support but on the other hand, they are often painted to be some sort of a police at work. A lot about HR’s role is shrouded in mystery and it makes sense because there actually are things that the HR wouldn’t want you to know. Let’s have a snoop at some of those things.
HR Is Not There To Protect You
Most of the employees have been kept under the false impression that HR personnel are around to help them out or make them feel right at home. This couldn’t be farther from the truth.
HR would stick up for the employees only because protecting the company from employment- related lawsuits is one of its primary functions. Therefore, HR would want to be perceived as being on the employees’ side to ensure they don’t go on and sue the company. Furthermore, in doing so, they also ensure that matters are efficiently taken care of and do not go on to affect the employees’ morale and productivity which fulfills another one of HR’s primary function.
If The Interview Revolved Around Some Odd Questions, They Had No Intention of Hiring In The First Place
Have you ever been in an interview where the employer asked you to do things such as planning something or writing a plan out? Or maybe, the employer asked questions about people at your current workplace and even mentioned names? If yes, this was most likely an exercise in futility – at least for you. HR staffers would often do this when they want inside information or are looking for free services. There is a term for this practiced and it’s called “career phishing”.
Yes, they checked your Facebook
There is absolutely no legal obligation that would restrain the HR from looking a candidate up on facebook or any other form of social media. This means, that a majority of them will look you up online to find out something about your personality that you did not take to the interview room. This information, like it or not, will help them to take the decision about hiring you.
It is good practice therefore, that you keep your Facebook presentable and check up on your privacy settings before applying for an opening.
If They Want To Fire You, They Most Likely Will
There may be a plethora of employment laws or worker protection laws out there, but the HR knows how to work their way around them and exploit the loopholes, if they’ve decided to let you go.
They will do things that will set you up for failure such as locking you out of meetings that you should’ve been part of, devising policies that are just too strict to be followed, or going “by the book” on things that the organizational culture otherwise has high tolerance for.
The above are some of the things that the HR wouldn’t want the employees to know. However, as a business, if you’re looking to create an employee benefits package that will amp up your workers motivation and help you to retain the best talent, schedule a meeting with a specialist consultants at JS Benefits Group to see what would best suit your needs.
