There’s a saying that brains, like hearts, go where they are appreciated. This not only applies to individuals in general, but to employees as well.
Every employee is essential to the function of his or her workplace, and if they are dissatisfied with the available (or lack of) benefits they are receiving, it can make it difficult for them to be productive.
According to research, the largest contribution to absenteeism in the workplaces related to sickness is an injury or an illness (see page 12).
But while a healthy body is important in order to work properly, most employees forget about mental health as well. When the mind is overworked, the body follows suit.
With that in mind, here are 5 ways employers can help their employees stay healthy:
Add a Gym
Make it easier for your employees to exercise when they take a short break. If there is a small room that is unoccupied, turn it into a gym, or empty a room your office seldom uses.
Allow your employees to exercise daily and encourage them to do so by letting them use the gym whenever they can or want to.
Keep the timings separate for women or see if everyone can alternate days.
Encourage Short, Planned-Out Breaks
Yes, taking breaks can result in slow progress when it comes to getting work done. However, it’s also important to encourage your employees to take short, planned-out breaks. You can also introduce a 15-20 minutes break time 2 hours before lunchtime.
This will help your employees relax when they need to, and reduce distractions during work.
Hold a Potluck
Who doesn’t like potlucks? It’s the perfect way for your employees to get creative and show off their culinary skills. You can hold a potluck every 2 weeks to help employees gather together, have some fun, and get to know each other better.
Not only does this help them stay healthy in a demanding and stressful environment, it also boosts teamwork so that is a win-win situation.
Break the Routine, Go for a Treat
You’ll be surprised how a small treat once a month can make a significant difference in the way your employees work. Not only will it boost productivity, it will make your employees happier. They will feel valued and appreciated, and in addition, they will also form a better working bond with their managers.
Health and Wellness Program
A health and wellness program can go a long way in educating your employees about the importance of keeping their health in check.
You’ll not only help them learn about the risks and consequences of unhealthy habits, you will help them make educated decisions. This will boost workplace productivity and reduce absenteeism.
