Job interviews can be equally tough on interviewers as they are on the interviewee. While there is plenty of literature on the internet to guide interviewees through the process of the job interview, there is not much for interviewers to go through when they are looking for tips or questions to ask.

While there is a lot that interviewers learn through experience, first-time interviewers might want to know some of the questions they can ask candidates during the course of their interview.

In this article we look at some of the questions to ask in your job interview. Make sure you incorporate your own twist to these questions to make them even more interesting.

Question1: Tell me about the goals you have set for yourself

The goals an employee has set for themselves can almost always give you a fair understanding of where they stand in life and how they want to progress forward. It is almost always beneficial for you and your organization to hire someone who has set certain goals for themselves, but someone too ambitious might not prove to be a long term fit in your firm.

Question 2: Tell me about your relationships with people in your previous place of work

Employee relationships are an important part of assessing their performance and whether they will conflate within your workplace or not. You want someone who has no issues with diversity and has not had any conflicts in their past place of work.

Question 3: What is your most significant professional career achievement to date?

While the CV or resume of a candidate has pretty much all the information pertaining to them, it can help you to hear what they say about their most significant achievements in life. This will also give you a perspective into how they have gone about things in their life, and how that defines them.

Also, you can judge the way candidates view achievement and accomplishment, based on how they tackle this answer. Also be positive to answers where candidates are honest and blunt in saying that they haven’t achieved anything worthy of being mentioned right now.

Question 4: What professional mistakes or experience would you not want to repeat in life?

All of us make mistakes in life and feel despondent over them. Well, as an interviewer, you sure can try to find just what kind of professional mistakes candidates have made in the past and how upfront they are right now.

Question 5: Who is the smartest person you know?

Finally, it is always nice to ask about professional role models and who they admire, this can help them think and help you assess what they aspire to be.
